How Does the PMI Academic Scholarship Work?

The scholarship amount varies each year. If you’re selected for this scholarship, you will receive a letter that states the exact scholarship amount to be used for your program study. Note that the PMI scholarship is awarded for just one academic year. It does not cover any subsequent years of study.

Eligibility Criteria

Students who intend to apply for PMI Academic Scholarship must fulfill the following requirements:

  • The applicant must be currently enrolled or plan to enroll by fall 2024 in project management or another related field with the intent of pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD program.
  • Those who are undergraduate students must be enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university.
  • Graduate students must be classified as half-time students at an accredited college or university.
  • You must be in good standing with the institution’s policies.
  • Must comply with PMI policies and procedures, such as PMI’s culture, values, code of ethics, and professional conduct.

Beyond the aforementioned eligibility criteria, applicants must also be eligible to receive the scholarship amount through the enrolled academic institution, as the amount will not be directly disbursed to the student’s account.

Those Who Are Not Eligible to Apply

  • Current employee, contractor, or consultant of PMI.
  • Those who are current members of any global volunteer group.
  • Current sitting members of PMI or PMIEF’s board of directors.

Documents Required for the PMI Academic Scholarship

Before applying for this scholarship, candidates are expected to review and gather certain documents that would help support their application. These documents should be prepared in English, such as:

  • Electronic transcripts (could be official and unofficial) from your current or most recently attended college, university, or other tertiary educational institution. This academic transcript must showcase the program of study in PDF format.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) or resume.
  • Two letters of recommendation are written on the official letterhead.

Kindly note that applications for the 2024 PMI scholarship have been open since March 1, 2024, and have closed on May 1, 2024. This means you can no longer apply for it at the moment. Selection Process

Applicants who are eligible to apply for this scholarship and have completed their application will be evaluated by PMI volunteer reviewers. These people will then review each application based on the quality of the content of the essay as well as the letters of recommendation submitted by the applicants. The process of selection is done using a points-based system rubric.

Those who are lucky enough to be selected as finalists for this scholarship will be notified through the Submittable platform.


Is PMI membership required to apply for this scholarship?

No, PMI membership is not part of the requirement for applying for or receiving this scholarship. What happens if I don’t submit the required documents within the specified time frame after being selected?

According to the scholarship provider, recipients are given the grace of three weeks from the date of notification to submit all required documents. If you don’t, it will result in the automatic withdrawal of your scholarship. However, they may consider a significant and reasonable situation that may lead to a late submission.
